Snowshoes and silence

Cleared winter paths run along the lake and through the Unterautal — and where the path ends, the snowshoes begin: on the Achensee winter walking programme, nature park rangers and guides lead the way through the snowbound Karwendel valleys. Favourites include the climb from Achenkirch up to the Falkenmoosalm (7.9 km, around 3.5 hours) and the long, easy-angled round from Pertisau over the Falzthurnalm to the Gramai Alm. Safety has its firm place here too: six checkpoints let you test your avalanche transceiver, and the ORTOVOX training trail in the Rofan at 1,800 m rehearses the real thing across seven stations.
