The region · Achenkirch on Lake Achensee
Between the Karwendel and the Rofan
Like a fjord, the Achensee pushes in between the walls of the Karwendel and the Rofan — nine kilometres of blue-green water, with alpine pastures and summit crosses above. And on the quiet northern shore: Achenkirch.

The AchenseeCard
From May to October the Achensee walking programme takes you through the area with qualified mountain guides — free with the AchenseeCard, from the Nature Watch tour to the Moosenalm to a summit day on the Rofan or in the Karwendel.
You reach the Gaisalm on foot — or by boat.
The Gaisalm on the car-free western shore is the only alpine inn in Tyrol that no car can reach. Out along the path, back across the water — or the other way round. The choice is yours.

What is there to do at Lake Achensee in summer?
Swimming and watersports in Tyrol's largest lake, hiking in the Karwendel and Rofan, cycling around the lake, golf on the 18-hole course in Pertisau and trips with the Achensee boat service — to the Gaisalm, for instance, which can only be reached on foot or by boat.
What does Achenkirch offer in winter?
The family ski area Christlum is right in Achenkirch, and there are more than 200 km of groomed cross-country trails around the lake, cleared winter walking paths and toboggan runs.
Can you swim in the Achensee?
Yes — the water is close to drinking quality. As a mountain lake it stays refreshing and reaches around 20 degrees in high summer. The lido in Achenkirch is a ten-minute walk from Appartementhaus Sunshine.
How do I get to Achenkirch on Lake Achensee?
By car on the A12, exit Wiesing, then the B181 (about 25 minutes) — or from Germany via Tegernsee/Kreuth on the B307. By public transport: Jenbach station, then bus 4080 to Achenkirch. Locally, the regional bus is free.
